Before reading about the Sun Sign first you must know what the Sun sign is. The term Sun sign denotes the position of sun in zodiac at the time of your birth. For example for an Aries man or woman sun was in the Aries zone of zodiac at the time his/her birth. In other words when you are born the sun was in Aries zone of the zodiac.
Normally the Astrologers take sun signs to understand the human characteristics nature and other qualities. To understand the sun signs first we must know that there are two views for deciding the dates of sun signs: “Western view and Indian view”.
According to the western astrologers the sun transits from one sign to another on around 21st day of a month. For example according to Western Astrology the sun transits in Aries around 21st March and stays in that sign until 20th April. But from the Indian Astrologers sun transits in Aries Around 14th April and stays there until 13th May.
One more thing is that there may be one day’s variations you may find, in the books of astrologers those are from USA time zone and from the astrologers of the Greenwich, England. You will find that the dates covering twelve Sun Sign periods vary according to astrologer whom you are reading and this can be confusing for you. The reason being most of the astrologers don’t wants to confuse you that the sun changes signs in the morning, afternoon or evening in a particular days. For example, except leap year (year having 366 days) variations. The sun leaves Aries and enters Taurus on April 20th in all USA time zones and on 21st April in Greenwich (England) time zone.
So it’s very important for you always keep in mind that April 20th contains both signs (Aries & Taurus).
So always remember if you were born on either the first or last day of any of the sun sign periods, listed in your book, you must know the exact time of your birth with the place of your birth (longitude and latitude of your birth) to judge whether or not the sun had changed the sign by that hour at the place where your were born.
So if you are born quite close to changing dates or on the cusp (Sandhikal - A Hindi word) and wish to find out exactly in which sign you were born under. You are advised to have your own personal horoscope drawn up. Therefore the following dates are guidelines:
